EDITING

I edit academic papers, professional manuscripts, and application essays. I am a skilled copy editor and a deft line, substantive, and developmental editor, so I am able to provide multiple levels of service to a project. The fields I have edited professionally in include education, political science, chemistry, film and media studies, African American studies, sociology, law, energy policy, and design. I also proofread marketing and communication materials for businesses, cultural organizations, and academic institutions.

Having worked “behind the scenes” at a highly selective institution, I am intimately familiar with how applications are read and admissions decisions are made. While at UChicago, I conducted interviews; evaluated applications; sat on Questbridge and international financial aid committees; recruited students from the US, Singapore, Spain, and Eastern Europe; and helped shape the incoming freshman class. The insights I gained inform my work as a counselor, but so does my personal experience as an international college student in the US and my training as an editor. I have worked with students on their applications for the last eight application cycles.

Although most of my students are college-bound high schoolers, I have also worked with applicants to business school, law school, hospitality management school, and master’s and doctoral programs.

My work with younger writers is not restricted to application processes. I tutor middle and high schoolers to help them develop their written expression, improve their reading comprehension, and expand their analytical skills. I typically work with students individually, but I also offer small group seminars that are focused specifically on academic writing.

Cristina is an editor, professor, and college counselor based in her hometown of Madrid, Spain. She currently teaches International Relations courses at Universidad CEU San Pablo.

She has been working in admissions and college counseling for the last ten years. She worked in undergraduate admissions at UChicago before moving to the applicant side to work directly with students on their written expression and university applications. She enjoys helping students find their voice as they craft their personal statements.

Cristina is bicultural and multilingual, proven assets for her work with students whose first language is not English. This background also helps her with native English speakers, since it has trained her to have a keen sense of tone, structure, and linguistic quirks in reviewing manuscripts. Her personal background as an international student and her professional experience across four continents have developed her intercultural communication skills, further enabling her to connect and collaborate with students anywhere.

Cristina received her Bachelor’s degree with honors from the University of Chicago in International Studies and Latin American and Caribbean Studies. She holds a Certificate in Editing from the University of Chicago Graham School and a Master on the European Union from Universidad CEU San Pablo. She is currently pursuing a PhD in European migration policy at Universidad CEU San Pablo.
